Their story

2018-2019:

Project 1: While on a visit, it came to our attention that a very poor family known to locals had lost their home under bad weather conditions. The father of three children had fainted. We asked him what was wrong. He explained the enormous burden of keeping his wife and children sheltered. We decided to visit their home, only to find a few tin sheets surrounding the outdoor toilet with a hole in the ground. The rest of the material that came down from the severe weather conditions were used to patchwork a missing wall of a neighbours room where they were temporarily living. They also did not have water access between a few poor families. We decided to take the project on and build the family a home made of bricks and offer a community well.

Project 2: A poor family with insufficient funds to pay for essential medicine came to our attention. We sent someone to visit the family and was extremely disturbed by the situation. The father had a neurological disorder that meant his body was continuously shaking rapidly. Without medication he was in a permanent state of no rest. This has been very sad to see. We checked the medical records and the medication needed. We decided on a medical fund to supply him with some years of medication. A partnership with the local pharmacy meant we can provide the money directly to the pharmacy while the families receive their supply of essential medication on a monthly basis. The medical fund aimed to offer medication for him and other similar cases.

2017-2018:

We took on two cases.

Project 1: An elderly woman, widowed living with a daughter relying on handouts. They live in a house made of clay, straw, card, bamboo and tin with no water supply. The toilet is a hole in the ground. Nearest water source is some distance away. We decided to build them a brick house and provide a well. We intended to break the decades of daily poverty cycle of carrying water, and at times using dirty water; we intended to provide a home that did not need to be patched up with card and clay, was waterproof and gave decent sanitation.

Project 2: An elderly woman with a house near collapse. Her tin roof has several holes resulting in rain water seeping in. The wood holding the roof up is rotten and falling. Her home has no water source nor is there nearby water. We intended to provide a community well to reduce the distance she has to travel for water and roof tin replacement with new wood to keep the house standing and keep it water proof.
